Nauvoo Bread
Recipe From Family Living Center, Historic Nauvoo
Ingredients: Makes 6 round loaves
5 Cups Water (slightly hot)
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Powdered Milk
2 Tablespoons Yeast
½ Cup Potato Flakes
½ Cup Oil
2 Tablespoons Salt
5 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
7-9 Cups White Flour
Combine slightly hot water, sugar, powdered milk, and yeast in a large bowl. Stir to combine and dissolve the sugar. Wait a few minutes to allow yeast to begin bubbling.
Stir in potato flakes, oil, and salt.
Add whole wheat flour and stir 300 strokes or for 3 minutes to develop gluten. Add 3 cups white flour, stir, and then add 2 more cups white flour as you knead the dough. Knead for 15 minutes – adding up to 2-4 more cups of white flour, as needed. Let dough rise to double – takes about an hour. Punch dough down and allow to rise again. Shape into smooth round loaves, place on greased cookie sheet and allow to rise again. Bake for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees.

My husband and I visited Nauvoo this past Friday and Sat. which was the last showing of the Pageant. We enjoyed both our days with everything!
I loved the bread, and made a copy of the recipe on this site so I can make some myself to eat, and to share!
Thank you for all the service all of you give and your testimonies of our Lord and Savior. My husband is not yet a member, and he enjoyed it as well.
